More Breathing Space - Sonia Welch - Yoga and Ayurveda
Sonia Welch in Garudasana, eagle pose on Morecambe Bay

I run yoga classes Monday through Friday (and one Sunday a month).

Level - Open to all

All beginners and advanced students are welcome as instruction will be given for both. Variations and modifications for each flow are encouraged to find a level which suits you. All I expect from you in class is a sustained effort towards making your breath more comfortable and smooth and eventually learning 'Ujjayi breathing' within which you can plant your postures. This will detox, tone, lubricate and stretch the body and let your mind rest and rejuvenate. You will leave after each class feeling like you have re-established your center and un-knotted any tensions and tightness. The content of the yoga classes changes a little each week and each season in order to form a well-rounded practice.

My style of teaching:
The type of yoga that I do is a combination of Core Strength Vinyasa Flow; Seasonal Yoga and Pranayama. All classes are aimed at being a remedy for general aches and pains and more troublesome injuries or a feeling of general everyday tiredness, tension or anxiety and are suitable for everyone from athletes to those who are just starting to work towards better fitness.

My Bio:
I started my education in health when I was 24 - before this I did almost anything I could do be unhealthy but from late teens to twenties I could get away with this....not so anymore.  In 1994 I started my training in Reflexology in Totnes, Devon. Over the next ten years I worked primarily in the health food industry in London and trained with alternative health remedies retailers. During this time my interest in Yoga started and I began taking classes with a colleague who was an Iyengar Yoga teacher. In 2005 I finished my BA(Hons) in Ayurvedic Studies and went to India to do my Ayurveda internship in Jaipur (National Institute of Ayurveda) and my yoga teacher training with YogaPoint. During my time in India I was introduced to Vipassana meditation which still influences teaching. On my return from India I started teaching yoga and finished my diploma in Ayurvedic Nutrition. In August 2009 I graduated from the Chi Yoga School in Scotland introducing me to the concept of Seasonal Yoga. This year I completed my Core Strength Vinyasa teacher training with Sadie Nardini. I also qualified in Thai Yoga Massage this year which has influenced my teaching style tremendously. My interest in Thai Massage peaked when I took some Acro-Yoga immersions as these included learning Thai Massage techniques and warm-up yoga flows called Thai-Asana. My training in Acro-Yoga has now transformed into my Partner Yoga classes and workshops. All of my teachings are specifically linked with returning to your natural breath in order to find Yoga's benefits. The yoga I teach is appropriate for everyone from those with limited movement and injuries to those who are trying to challenge themselves and access more advanced yoga teachings. From the first day of teaching yoga I finally felt I was doing what I was meant to do and I'm passionate about sharing the joy yoga gives me.
