The Moon’s Dosha Map: Moving with the Rhythms of Each Phase
Ayurveda teaches us that just as the sun governs the seasons, the moon governs the subtle tides of the body and mind. Each phase of the lunar cycle carries a distinct doshic quality — shifting from cool stillness to earthy grounding, rising fire to dissolving air.
When we begin to listen to these lunar rhythms, we realize we are not meant to move with constant effort and output. Instead, the body and heart mirror the moon’s changing light: expanding, releasing, pausing, and remaking themselves.
🌑 Days 29–3 | Vata–Kapha Moon | New Moon Phase
“I am being remade in stillness.”
This is a sacred pause. Energy turns inward. The system feels tender, foggy, or detached — or sometimes beautifully at peace. The body whispers: stop proving, stop pushing. This is the exhale before the inhale.
Attune by:
Letting things go unfinished
Sleeping longer if needed
Warm oil, warm food, soft light
Listening for the next right thing (not rushing to find it)
🌒 Days 4–8 | Kapha Moon | Waxing Crescent Phase
“I am not behind. I am sinking in.”
The body craves rhythm now. This is the most physically dense part of the cycle — earthy, steady, slow. Heaviness may feel like resistance, but it is the soil building your foundation.
Attune by:
Honoring fatigue without self-blame
Doing small, nourishing routines
Letting the body set the pace
Moving with heaviness, not against it
🌓 Days 9–13 | Kapha–Pitta Moon | Waxing Half to Gibbous
“I am full of potential.”
Momentum builds here. Desire, hunger, and creativity awaken. Energy rises naturally — no chasing required. This is the fire kindling within a steady vessel.
Attune by:
Eating warm, oily, sustaining meals
Making space for creation without forcing
Noticing how energy builds when you don’t chase it
🌕 Days 14–18 | Pitta Moon | Full Moon Phase
“I see clearly. I act wisely.”
The lunar peak. Fire and clarity shine bright. This is a time of focus, expression, and outward activity. But without balance, the same fire can burn too hot, tipping into inflammation or exhaustion.
Attune by:
Channeling passion into aligned action
Releasing perfectionism
Using movement to release heat
Balancing fire with water — hydration, softness, laughter
🌗 Days 19–23 | Pitta–Vata Moon | Waning Gibbous to Half
“I am becoming air again.”
The intensity loosens. Energy grows lighter, quicker, more restless. Thoughts scatter; momentum feels less contained. This is the body’s whisper to slow down, even if the mind wants more.
Attune by:
Doing less, even if you want to do more
Prioritizing digestion and downtime
Returning to the breath, again and again
🌘 Days 24–28 | Vata Moon | Waning Crescent Phase
“I am unspooling, returning to Source.”
This is the deep end of the exhale. Energy is subtle, dissolving. You may feel ungrounded, anxious, forgetful — or profoundly connected to stillness. What seems like unraveling is actually a sacred loosening.
Attune by:
Slowing your speech, walking, decisions
Lubricating — with oil, broth, hydration, compassion
Releasing urgency — you are not meant to feel “on” all month
Find Your Rhythm
Each lunar phase teaches us a different rhythm: stillness, heaviness, rising fire, fullness, release, and dissolution. When we honor these tides within ourselves, we no longer demand constant productivity. Instead, we learn to move with the moon’s medicine — a rhythm of becoming, unmaking, and becoming again.
