Earth — Be Here Now
When the nervous system perceives a threat, our first step is to come back to earth — to return to presence. So often the mind is spinning: cycling through memories of the past, or projecting anxieties into the future. Long periods caught in those loops are deeply dysregulating.
Regulation simply means being here, now. In Ayurveda, the heart is understood as the true home of the mind — the seat where it rests and finds steadiness. To return to presence is to return the mind to the heart.
Ajahn Brahm’s phrase “there’s something right with me” offers a beautiful entry point. Even in pain, even in distress, we can remind ourselves that something is already right here, right now.
When we look at our symptoms in context, they begin to make sense: Of course I’m distressed… of course I’m struggling… of course I’m finding things hard. This understanding softens judgment and brings compassion.
This practice is about letting the mind come home — from its wandering, worrying, and striving — back into the heart, back into the present, back into the ground of being here now.
